“To be or not to be? That is the question.”

Wow, that's Shakespeare huh? Pretty poetic guy. And you know what that means - he was probably quite the lady’s man. I don’t know about you, but that kind of makes me a little red in the face with jealousy. I mean, come on, not all of us can be born with an inane talent to write in colorfully beautiful poetic prose. How bad do you feel frantically pondering how to be romantic when all this guy had to do was scribble a few lines on a whim and any woman is putty in his arms. And did you know what he wore in those days? Corset, puffy pants and tights.

My point is that Shakespeare was not only incredibly talented, but a brilliant advice giver.

“To be or not to be? That is the question.”

Many people think that this famous line was a pinnacle turning point for the character of Hamlet. Well, I’ve got a surprise for you, it was actually about two things – candy and romance. That’s right, Hamlet had a sweet tooth. But, more importantly, in that one simple line he is giving great advice. Allow me to translate:

“To be…” translates to “Romantic…”.

“…or not to be…” translates to “…or not romantic…”.

The “?” at the end already implies the question to you – “do you want to be romantic or not?”

Now, you would think “That is the question” is in reference to the question that was just asked. No, it’s not. In fact, that question is: What kind of candy are you going to get to be romantic? That’s right, candy. Because, let’s be honest, we’re not Shakespeare and we can’t rhyme to save our lives so sweet delights are going to have to serve as our means to make women (or men) swoon. And you can’t lose. Who can resist the chocolates? You’ll probably have strangers on the street asking for your hand in marriage while you carry a box of these delicate Valentines in your hands. Well, maybe not to that extreme, but I’m sure you’ll at least catch somebody’s eye. And hey, you have to start somewhere.
